We had an early breakfast at 6:30 AM because we were going to take a ride up along the coast to Kohala. The plan was to enjoy a snorkeling field trip on a catamaran where we would also have our lunch. From there we were to proceed up to Hawi where we would have a luau at Earl and Audrey Valoria's house. Unfortunately, all this got canceled because there was a hurricane named "Flossie"approaching the island. The hotel closed the pools and had sandbags around most entrances to keep water from coming into the hotel proper. Our leaders quickly arranged for us to have a lot of activities for the rest of the day at the hotel. The kids had a session where they made of flower leis for their heads. There was also a session about how to play the ukulele. We had lunch at the hotel and took the rest of the afternoon to take photographs around the hotel and to begin to pack because we were scheduled to leave the next day.. We gathered together about 6 PM and attended a luau in the hotel's big convention hall. Before dinner. They had activities for the children, including getting tattoos and experimenting with various Hawaii toys. They also had an open bar with wine and Mai Tais. There was a full entertainment program with dancers and then a very elaborate dinner served buffet style. After dinner we went outside, where a fire twirlers perform for us. We were disappointed that we did not get to go to the Veloria's but our leaders did a good job of making up for our losses. We returned to our room and finished our packing.
